240 Power Window Problems
I have a stuck power window. I used the switch on the drivers door and put down the passenger side rear window. I only put it down 4 inches. When I tried to put it back up, it did not move. I touched it down again and it went down but not up. I flipped the window lock button back and forth a bit and still had nothing. The individual switch on the corresponding door does not move the window either up or down, however the other side works fine. In fact all the other windows work fine. What should my steps be to fix this problem? Any help is greatly appreciated.

RE: 240 Power Window Problems
Try the switch off the other side that works, on the wiring of the side that doesn't. If the window works now it is the switch and you could either strip the switches down and clean the contacts or replace the switches.

I agree with Night Owl. The power for the other windows goes through the drivers' side window switch, there is also a good place to clean whilst you're at it.

RE: 240 Power Window Problems
Just wanted to thank night owl and wagoneer for their help with my problem. I went in and switched the switches of the two rear doors. On the window that was not working to begin with, the "good" switch only would put the window down. I went back to the driver’s door and used the master switch and the window went up. I am happy for now, because I am not driving around with a trash bag taped to my window. However, I want to fix the problem entirely. What do you feel is going on back there? Is it as simple as a loose wire? Thanks again for the help.

RE: 240 Power Window Problems
Your best bet is to dissassemble the switches carefully (small ball bearings) and clean them thoroughly, use a little vaseline on assembly to lubricate.
I did this with my passenger switch and it works fine. Just the drivers door to do now! I think perhaps I'll take some pictures of the proceedure for anyone else to follow. |

Pictures of the procedure would be very helpful. Thanks again.
