Not being overly infatuated with turbos, the thought of a more powerful normally aspirated engine appeals.
Has anyone tried one of these? Quite rare, I know.
As I remember it is all 2.4 system, but they were really a boat engine and lacked low down torque.
Were they much more powerful than a 230E? and what was max RPM?

just a thought.

I've read that there's not a huge advantage over 2.3 8v, but no facts to back it up... I also like the idea of 16 valves, but suspect you'd have to get the balancing right and make it a screamer to really notice.

Would you build one from a 204 and a 230, or find a penta?

The B234F is 150 bhp the same as the B200F turbo , ( B230 E is 135 bhp ) it really loves to rev to 6000 rpm + so easily due to the balance shafts , however the inlet manifold is very restrictive .

For an easy , cheaper life you would be better trying to fit a B230FT .

Seems a lot of work for 15hp(ish) gain

As far as the practical side of fitting it, I believe there are issues with interference between the clutch master cylinder and the head on RHD cars.

The 8v block is supposedly stronger and better than the 16V, the popular way to do it is 16V pistons and head on an 8V bottom end. This also allows fitting of the block-mounted distributor (with a low-profile saab dizzy cap) to avoid cutting the firewall. you also need a custom timing belt set up.

Personally I'd like to stick a supercharged 16V 2.5 penta engine in a stripped-down 244 for a real screamer.

Way to go - lots of torque at the bottom end/mid-range is the ONLY way.
