ABS And Tracs Light Stays On.
Guys, sorry if there is a link for this specific problem, if so, I am very sorry for bringing this up again.
For the last year or so (since my mate changed a front drive shaft gaiter), the ABS and Tracs lights came on, or near to arround the day it was done. So for the last MOT last April I took the bulbs out. But as now the MOT rules have changed, I have put the bulbs back in. On the first run, no lights on at all. Until I stopped and took it out again, and straight away both lights came on. They came on after I heard a noise coming from the engine bay, it was only for a second or so, which I have heard before, like something trying to cut in, if you know what I mean? It has in the past, but not so much now also felt like the back of the brake pedal was being hit with a hammer when depressing it, along with this said noise. Any ideas guys? As its obviously gotta be sorted before the next MOT. I presume its not to do with the tire wall height? A friend said his mum had different size tires put on her V40 and it made the lights come on, but it was so long ago when this started, I cant remember if I had changed them or not. Canb anyone tell me what wall height is recommended for a 96-97 manual V70 T5 at all please? Thanks :-) Last edited by Reegs; Nov 10th, 2013 at 14:27. |

As long as the tyres are all the same size the cars ABS will work correctly, I would start by checking the ABS sensor and wiring on the corner the driveshaft boot was changed and also take a good look at the condition of the reluctor ring as this might have been damaged.
The noise from the engine bay is the ABS pump running which does make the brake pedal feel like it is being hit with a hammer, the reason the ABS is kicking in is because the car thinks one of the wheels has locked up which could be due to a number of things but start with what I mentioned in the first para - Mike |

Thanks for the info, will do. Ive got until April to get it sorted before the MOT is due. I do remember last winter, in the ice, the ABS would play up more with the slippery snow on the ground, and make the hammer hitting feeling under the break pedal more frequent. :-) |
