960 or 965?
I have recently purchased a 1991 H reg 960? estaste, however some of the original Volvo service sheets depict it as a 965!
Can somebody please explain the differences between the two. My car has full leather, air con, sun roof electric windows all round, electric drivers seat, heated front seats, climate control, headlamp wash wipe, electric door mirrors and the Lambda Sond 6cyl 3.0 litre engine. The car also appears to be very soft on the suspension, is it fitted with "Nivomat" suspension? How do I check it? Thank you for your assistance:+ |

RE: 960 or 965?
The (5) on the end of 965 or 245 etc was used to immediate tell if the car was an estate or saloon, using the 5 (5th door) instantly showed the model was an Estate, this was dropped around 1992 so the model numbers could be rounded up.
My suspension is very soft to ! will wait to hear how to check ! |

RE: 960 or 965?
The first six digits of your car's VIN are YV1965. YV1 denotes Volvo and 965 denotes 960 vehicle with 5 doors. This is true for 900 series right up to V90 and S90 models ('97-'98).

RE: 960 or 965?
Yes, as said earlier 965 just tells you it has 5 doors.
Regarding the soft suspension - I have owned a '88 740 GLE Estate, '91 960 Turbo Estate (2.3 FPT), '95 940 GLE LPT Estate, and now a '98 V90. The '91 Turbo was by far the softest suspension and rolled quite a lot, despite the fact this was the high pressure turbo and presumably expected to be driven fairly quickly. The self-levelling units were changed but made no difference to the ride really. I'm not sure if it had actual Nivomats as the self-levelling units - I think that make was only later. The '95 car was much more stable, but this V90 is in a different league altogether, much better ride and handling (corners flatter and with more stability). Regards Stuart |

RE: 960 or 965?
That could be because your V90 has independent rear suspension. It is not the same as the 760/940/960 (early) saloons, but has a transverse leaf spring arrangement.
