Last year, I cleaned The Volvo's headlamp lenses in the kitchen sink with normal washing-up liquid after removing them from the main body of the lamp, which they are attached to by six clips. They were quite hazy inside after seventeen years, so cleaning them made quite a difference to the look of the car. I didn't touch the reflectors, though, as I was told that the silvering can be removed from them if you aren't careful. The headlamps themselves are attached to the car with four bolts and are removed quite quickly and easily

i just attempted to clean them and i removed the lens of the lamp that's actually foggy along with the big black plastic dome attatched to it. i ran soapy water through them and stuck a cloth to a rod through the whole the bulb goes through but this didn't seem to make any difference at all. i didn't disconnect the two because there seemed to be a seal between the lens and dome plus there was no type of clips or anything?
is this what you did or did you actually detatch the lens?

As you are an American I am afraid you have the awful lights that the administration allow you to use. Have a word with IPD ( http://www.ipdusa.com ) about the solutions they have in stock that will improve the lighting on your car. Basically the yellowing is caused by the lenses which are plastic. European lighting has glass lenses which are vastly superior and IPD can usually obtain them for you.

All the best, Peter.

I forgot that the US models had those! I wonder if this remedy would work on them?
