Hmm
Hello everyone.
Well, I just traded my 97 veccy 1.8 estate in for a 07 V50 1.6 diesel, bhp seemed to be about the same and new car had leather seats. very happy so far. But it seems to have amazingly little power pressed into those bhp. In seccond gear it can't keep speed up when going up a steap hill, and I've had several times where it just cut even in 1st gear when going uphill. Is there some kind of trick to driving a diesel that I just haven't learned? Do I need to keep high revs to get forward? Another thing that's pussling me is diesel consume. when I'm going straight ahead on a fairly flat road in 80 km/hr it will consume less if I'm using 4th gear on 2200 revs than it will in 5th gear at 1700 revs. Is this normal? It's just been serviced so it should be in good condition, but I did notice the oil being fairly black, unfortunately I didn't check til I drove it about 1000 miles, so I really can't say for sure that they didn't change it. What should I check to make sure my car is banging as well as it should? Tks. |

Yep your trying to drive it like a petrol, it's a different beastie altogether you have torque now which you will get used to in time. TBH the 1.6 isn't going to feel all that quick at the best of times but driven well is a respectable performer. Go for quicker gear changes in 1st. and 2nd. and try to keep the revs between 2 and 3 k you'll feel a bit of grunt in 3rd and should be pleasantly surprised.

Thanks a lot.
Eased my mind a bit before we're going for a long drive. |
