V40 Gdi?
Hi everyone,
I am currently looking for a 1.8 V40... i have looked at lots of the threads on here (very usefull!) and am just after a bit of general advice on what to look for and what to avoid. it sounds like the the gdi engines are generally worth avoiding? also what were the production date ranges on the gdi and non gdi v40's? Thanks allot chris |

Hi Chris
I have a series of original brochures in pdf form for the V40 series which covers the GDi and non-gdi vehicles. I have a 1.8 2002 V40 myself, the non-gdi version. I think the info is in there. In terms of what to look for and what to avoid... I would say go for a post 2000 model, Phase 2 if money can stretch that far as there were numerous improvements etc. One of the brochures covers what changed in Phase 2. Look for rust in wheel arches, poor servicing etc. All the models in the V40 series seem to go through bulbs like crazy... If you want anything else, PM me or I can upload them here - loads of info. Enjoy! |

Hi liberty555
Thanks for the advice i have sent you a PM.. so i'm best to look for a 2000 or newer then.. i have now got a 2003 v40 brochure but my budget wont stretch that far.. want to spent around 2-2.5k so i think i'll be looking at 1999-2001.. |

Hi Chris
I emailed what I have. I don't think anything much changed from 2000 on really, just a few trim bits and so on, no major tech changes. |

Yeah, phase 2's do have a better level of safety and comfort, but as you say, money talks.
Try www.parkers.co.uk for some good info/tips. As for what to look for: same as any other car really, regular servicing, rot-free, rattle and clonk-free, just have a good look round in general and check all the usual. V/S40's as with any other car, do have their problems but with service history and good maintenance these are sound, reliable safe cars. And on the plus side, if you do have any problems, there's no better place than here to solve 'em. Good luck. P.S. Try the cars for sale section on the forums.

Hi Chris
Well I can't really comment as I bought in Euros and cars in Ireland are rediculously expensive here (way over priced, can't wait to leave ... anyway, thats another story...) That seems pretty run of the mill price wise just looking on the carzone prices. If its a clean and tidy car thats been looked after I'm sure you'll be fine, but I think thats pretty good. Good luck |

yeah think it's a nice one will go and have a look but i think i'll hang on to find something a little less coslty... i seem to have such a fixed idea of what i want i'm limiting the choices... just be patient till one crops up i suppose..
