Default remanufactured s/s hubcaps

Hello All

I was thinking of buying a set of the remanufactured stainless steel hubcaps for my early Amazon - the ones with the red centre caps. They costs about £80 per set. just wondering if anyone has tried them and can commnet on the quality and recommend a supplier?

I see they are for sale on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=330322155715

Any help appreciated.

Thanks
Lucien

Hi Lucien. First of all, I havent tried these but I must say they look nice. But, beware, the site does not mention that they are stainless steel. It says they are chromed. I dont know about the early caps but the later ones are stainless alright. The ones on this site are just chromed, which is fine if it is done well. He says they are done to "surface condition 4" which maybe good, maybe someone would know. Badly done chrome will start pitting and rusting eventually. Hugh.

That is the cheapest I have seen them in a long time. When I got mine (2002) from a US Volvo supplier, they had come from the UK (from the marks on the box but couldn't tell who originally made them). I ended up paying about 40pounds each! I think that this listing on ebay is from the guys really making them. I'm almost tempted to buy a set to stash them away.

I've just bought a set of similar black centred ones from the same seller for my P1800S. Will let you know what they're like when I receive them. The seller has previously been listing them individually but has now started selling them in sets of 4. He specialises in classic parts and was very helpful. His feedback is also excellent.

Just received the new hub caps and the chrome look good to me. They're also slightly heavier at 350g compared to the originals which weigh less than
300g.
