Demasked this morning, very happy just a couple of small areas that were missed due to the masking so will touch them up later. Hopefully back later to paint some of the small bits.

And the lightened flywheel had some surface rust so treating it with deox gel.

Went over to the workshop for a couple of hours and sprayed some black parts, used Jotun Hardtop HB which is a 2k satin paint. The old paint didn't look too bad after a clean and rub down but I got a bit of a reaction on the engine mounts so will see what they look like tomorrow. Flywheel came up nice so wrapped it up and put it away. Thinking I might clear coat the engine pulleys so put the timing pulley in a bucket of warm citric acid to hopefully remove the rust from the pits. Will see how it goes. A few more engine bits to paint this week.

A bit more spraying yesterday. I used Jotun 2k clear on the pulleys. I should probably say I'm not sponsored by Jotun and I actually bought some Lechlar epoxy for body panels today. 😁

This guy is definitely not a “ Chief Bodger “ All the work I’ve seen from photos seems to be of the highest standard.👍

I was hoping to get the engine and gearbox in today but things just took longer. A few things missing so waisted time looking for stuff and then having to go rob it from my spares. Got the steering idler in and tightened the brake lines. Built up the engine hoist, got the engine ready to go in, replaced the throw out bearing, fitted the flywheel and clutch. The cheapo clutch alignment tool didn’t fit so had to hold the gearbox and tighten up the bolts. Still need to change the gearbox cover, bolt on the the bellhousing and then can bolt the gearbox on and fit it. Nearly there.

Notice on pic 5 of 8 that you have omitted thin shim washer that normally fits between thrust bearing and spring clip. Is this not required with sealed bearing? Thanks excellent rebuild.

Ah I put it at the slot at the back of the bearing as assumed it was a stop. It wasn't there previously so not going to bother changing it now.

Got the engine and gearbox in tonight, bit trickier than I remember by myself. Anyone know if that's how the exhaust bracket goes off the back of the gearbox?

I'm not anyway of an expert, but should the shaped part of the bracket mate with the rear of the box? ( the part with the chamfered edges seems to resemble the bottom of the gearbox)

Looking later on, the holes don't appear to line up.
Well, I said I wasn't an expert!
