Default Rubbish Dipped Beams

Hello 👋

I have a v60 r design 2017 and the dipped beam headlights are woeful on dark country lanes to the point I struggle to see the road ahead.

The lights are always left in auto and switch from main/dipped beam automatically absolutely fine. The active bending feature works great too.

Feels like the lights aren't bright enough or adjusted correctly.

Can they been adjusted?

Thanks

Mine are ok, same year and spec. Not being facetious but have you given them a good wipe each day recently ?

In all honesty, no! Rather lazy but I had just left it to the headlamp washers.

Will give them a wipe tomorrow and see if they are better....fingers crossed for the easy fix/solution

Headlamp washers are a bit of a token gesture compared to the old wipers. Took my Mk 1 C70 out this week and it was notable that the headlamp wipers were still working and how they had cleared the lenses.

You don't say if you have halogen or xenon but in either case, new bulbs will likely help if yours are very old.

I'm assuming they're Xenon drive they are ABL

Aside from cleaning the lenses, it's worth checking if the aim is too low. My 2012 V50 was delivered with dipped beam set dangerously low so the road wasn't adequately lit for 70 mph on a dual carriageway. I got the dealer to raise the beam. It was still legal and made the car safe

There was another post recently on the same subject so it seems to be a common issue

Hello guys
I have a v50 2004/2005 halogen the low beam is extremely bad. I often fit quality Philips bulbs but they never last long. I wondered if I could (rather than a xenon hid kit) could I swap the sockets over which are taken off a xenon volvo and replace the halogen socket and halogen headlights to xenon?

V50 headlamps are abysmal. I used night breakers but they didn’t last very long. I reverted to Halogen and used my fog lamps( yes yes, I know that’s naughty) on quiet sections of open roads.

No that won't work. There is much more to HID lights than just a different connector.

2013 V60 , dipped beam was atrocious.

Just fitted Philip Xtreme bulbs , a big improvement..I have used these in other cars too and they have given good service life...how well they do in this one remains to be seen !!!
