Default Fading Rear Number Plates - UV 'tidemark'

I'm just about to replace my UK Yellow rear number plate due to fading of the colour - again!

There's a 'tidemark' half way up the plate where the sun catches it. I notice it in darkness too where the reflective properties of the rear plate isn't fully clear.

Is this a new problem with the plastics used or something? Anyone else had this issue? my last replacement plate wasn't cheap either.

No, I've replaced mone a few times over the years for exactly this reason. Unsure whether it's better to replace with inexpensive plates (~£10 each) or pay more - would they last much longer?

New plates make a nice difference to how the car looks!
