V40 D2 Brake pad issues
Hi.
14 plate v40 d2. 17000 miles. Just had front tyres changed was told brake pads could do with changing. Is this normal? Car is driven sensibly. The volvo dealers mechanic stated that the car would have had to have been ragged around for the pads to be that low at 17000 miles. The car had not been ragged around. The DS3 that I traded in for the volvo had the original brake pads still on at 36000 miles. Any others experienced this? ?? |

If you take a look at the pads yourself, then you can see whether you actually have premature wear or the dealer is trying it on.
Unless Volvo have drastically lowered their standards on newer cars or there's a manufacturing defect, pads needing a change at 17k is unlikely. I'm also light on my brakes so my genuine pads are two thirds worn after 50k miles.

Brake Pads
Hi
Would be interesting to know if Geeley have changed the material structure of the brake pads to make them less wear resistant. |

Sounds a little off to me, I am hard on my brakes and have plenty of meat left after 23k I'd expect to replace around 30-35k. I have a D4 which has larger rotors but doubt that would make a difference. |

This sounds very much like a Ford issue.
My ex V50 drive that I've sold a month or so ago lasted approx 80K Rear, 95K fronts. Earlier 2.0D V50 similar. Both cars were used for business but owned by me and were sold at 114k and 112k respectively. However, my company car Mondeo Titanium X 2.0 has new rear pads every 25k and discs at 50k. I questioned Ford about this this and they just shrugged. I don't care as I don't pay, but if it were my car I wouldn't have been happy with the answer. |

how many mm of "meat" is left on the pad then? You can easily see by looking through the spokes in the wheel . These pads usually need changing between 36 and 54000 miles .

I have T2 with 16 000 miles and D2 with 5 500 miles, on both cars brake pads are like new. You should have more "meat" than 5 mm at that milage, of course if you are driving and braking normally.
