R Design buying guide
Hi
I'm new to the site and also soon to be new to Volvo. I wondered if anyone has advice of things to look out for as I'm hoping to buy a nearly new V40 D2 R Design lux nav. Which is the better engine? Any common problems? Things to avoid? Thanks in advance Steve |

Hey I thought id venture into this section as the dealer gives these V40's out to customers as courtesy cars ... so thought i might try fill the blank space.
Is there a reason your just after the D2? im guessing you dont need any omph and just looking at mpg. If your looking for better engine I would look at the T range. With the rules changing to put people off Diesels unless your driving absolutly miles each day ... its not really worth it as it was before and the T petrol ranges will give you just as good mpg with better & smoother driving quality. I have driven quite a few D2 V40's and they are amazing inside etc but to drive ... they are awful ... especially the autobox.

If you are looking at a 2016 model year D2 then it will have the new Volvo in house 120ps 2.0 litre engine which I imagine would be better than the old Ford/PSA 1.6 D2. That said I am happy with my 1.6D2, performance is ok for me and it is reasonably economical but as mentioned above I would also consider the new 2.0 litre T2 petrol if I were you.

I've always been for economy so I've had diesels for years now but I must admit the threat of the government crippling diesels has made me think about swapping.
I do 70 miles a day to work so I don't want to be filling up every few days or increasing my fuel bill too dramatically. Im not a speed freak so bhp isn't important to me so long as the car has the legs to make it up a hill. Basically what I'm looking for is a car that looks a bit sporty but will drive to the moon and back on a tank of fuel. |
