Testing engine mounts
Hi all,
I suspect an engine mount is knackered as I have a lumpy idle and on hard acceleration uphill I can hear what sounds like a propshaft grinding on the steering rack which I’ve read on this forum could be a knackered engine mount. Does anybody know a quick test to see if engine mounts are leaking air etc. I seem to remember reading something where the oil filler cap was removed while engine running. thanks XC90 D5 2004 Auto 150,000 miles |

Tony, you need a cheap vacuum tester to do this.
If you connect the Vacuum tester to the hose leading directly to any vacuum engine mount you can instantly check to see whether it holds vacuum. These testers are under a tenner on ebay Cheshired5 shows you here how to do it.
