XC70 Today
Chose to use the wife's Mokka for taxi duty for son and heir and keep the XC70 snug and dry out of the rain...

Had the Heldex unit serviced by independent garage to day . Was going to do that myself but failed to undo the rusted bolts to remove pump from lying under car and for fear of striping 2 bolts Paid the professionals .Also had the power steering fluid changed same time.

Dropped car at indie for some work on rear brakes. 'Locking wheel nut in the boot?' said the mechanic.
'I'd better just check' says I. Cue frantic search of every orifice in the car - no sign. Back to reception desk - 'Er, sorry, no sign of the b***dy thing'. 'It does have locking wheel nuts does it? Not all of them do' says the mech. Back to the car. No, it doesn't have locking wheel nuts. Pitying look from the mechanic. Why wouldn't I know this? I've had the wheels off the thing myself! It's a b****r getting old!

Back to the future - in Volvo land.
Well I've only gone and ordered from Fords of Winford my latest Volvo, a 2014 XC70 D5, 36k mileage and in stunning condition. Back in Volvo land after a sojourn into Honda CR-V territory due to back issues.
My wife says "I don't know why it took you so long!" - in reality neither do I. My history with Volvos goes back to the early 80's starting with a new 244DL company car, the rest private - an S60 diesel, an S70 2.5 petrol (180k miles in that beautiful motor), 2 x S80's (one used D5 and one new diesel 1.6 DRIVe-underpowered and not to my taste) and an XC90 D5. Strong preference for the engineering off the Swedish Volvos, don't much like the Chinese Volvos or their prices. Very much looking forward to picking it up next week. This one is going to be my long term keeper-maybe my last one. Cheers John Last edited by Rangefinder10; Aug 9th, 2023 at 16:55. |

Picked up the shiny clean white XC70 on Thursday, drove in the rain on Friday, now not so clean and white. Today I ordered a set of Volvo mudguards.

Today I changed the number plate for a personal plate, not fancy but easy to remember using our name initials.
Also ordered a space saver spare wheel, should arrive in next couple of days. I will feel much happier carrying a spare rather than a tub of gunk. |

First post in this thread but won't be my last...
Replaced the flakey steering wheel trim with a new piece. Looks a lot better and no more cutting my skin! That was then followed by replacing the old and worn out rear anti rollbar links, as I had a quite nasty rattle in the rear. Sounded very much like worn end links. Result: rattles less but something else is loose. Will see what it could be...
