Default Interior boot light

Hi Gents,

I have an issue with my boot interior light not working. I have checked the earth at the light plug and its ok. I then checked for voltage at the same point and its 0. The fuse, F86 i believe, also provides power to the rear reading lights. These work so I have discounted the fuse to be at fault. Are there any other common areas on the S40 were the connection may be breaking down? Hoping someone can point me in the right direction before I start pulling things apart.

Thanks

Jez

It's possible that the boot wiring loom is failing. Although the light isn't connected to this wiring loom, the signal that allows the car to know if the boot is open or not comes from here. Check the condition of the wires just up inside the rubber conduit to the boot lid. I have written a guide for replacing/repairing the wiring loom here, This should give you some tips on what steps to take for inspection.

Snoodini, thanks for the advise. From what I can see the boot light has a constant voltage feed from the fuse. It then waits for an earth that is provided by the book catch when the boot is opened. I have checked the earth through the boot catch and that is good therefore the loom you mentioned is also good. The issue I have is that I'm not being provided with a voltage. I think I'm going to start tracing the loom as far as I can to find any other possible points of breaking.

Thanks again

Have you tried connecting a separate earth to test it?
I've a feeling it may be the boot switch.
