Hi
Just recently I have noticed that the lights on my P1800 ES have started flickering in intensity. When driving at night with my headlights on (of course!) I've noticed that the intensity of them flickers slightly - frequency is a couple of times a second - actually all the lights such as the O/D indicator etc. When the engine is idling everything is stable but as soon as the revs go above about 2000 the lights start to flicker. The frequency of the flicker doesn't seem to change with revs. It is fitted with a SEV alternator. Anyone any ideas? Is it the voltage regulator? Worried it might be on its way out. Ia there an easy way of testing it? Thanks Duncan |

Sounds like it might be the voltage regulator... disconnect the field connection from regulator to alternator and feed the field terminal on the alternator via a brake light bulb from +12V. This will give you an unregulated charge... if it stops flickering you've got it. Don't do it for too long because it's unregulated, but a minute or so to see if it works is OK.
