Default Alloys from a 740/940 to the Amazon?

Hi Guys,
a chap near me(100 miles!) is selling alloys that were on a 940 estate. I was wondering if they will fit the amazon? Also they are 17" but have low profiles on them. If the pcd and the offset is ok, I could get the overall diameter measured to see the difference. Any help is appreciated.

cheers,Mike

No idea about the offset, but they won't fit as the pcd is wrong. Amazons, PVs & B18 engined P1800s are 5 x 4.5" (114.3mm) pcd. B20 engined P1800s, 140, 160, 200, 700 & 900 are something like 5 x 108mm or 5 x 112 pcd.

Hi Paul,
thanks for the reply. I had thought that was the case but not 100% sure. I was also looking at other pictures of Amazons and noticed one or two with what appeared to be T5 wheels. I would imagine adapters or something would be needed there, but for me, I will hold out for a set of suitable alloys,or maybe new minilites if need be.
cheers,Mike

Hi Mike,

The guy who used to own & built the purple 4 door with T5 wheels (I'm guessing this is one of the ones you've seen) is a friend of a friend, & the hubs had been redrilled to fit them. Might be possible to get adaptors though.

However, a lot of American muscle cars and iirc also some Jeep Cherokee wheels will fit

clicky for Mustang wheels on an Amazon estate!

Hi. Much on a similar vein, I have been looking to update the wheels on my P1800 (B18 engine). I have seen a couple of P1800 with 240GLT wheels on them, can I assume these dont fit straight on and there has been some form of adapter used? Many thanks

If they were fitted to a B18 P1800, then the hubs have been altered, or adaptors used. However I believe that GLT alloys should bolt straight on to the later (B20 engined & rear disc brakes) P1800E / P1800ES

You can of course also do it be retrofitting the braking system and rear axle and front spindles from a later car onto an earlier one. This gives you the four wheel disks with dual circuit brakes which is normally the main reason for doing it and the change in PCD then comes for free.

Some of the details in this thread need making clear.

All Amazons and PV's have a pcd of 114.3 mm (sometimes rounded to 114.5)
P1800's jensen and S models have the 144.3mm PCD the same as the amazon and use the same axle.
P1800 E and ES have a PCD of 112mm
140,240,740 and all 5 stud models on have the 112mm PCD.
The offset on 140,240 and early 700's have a suitable offset to bolt directly onto a late P1800.

To convert a Amazon to the 112mm PCD you will need the front hubs off a P1800 E or ES and the rear axle aswell. The P1800 E and ES axle will bolt directly to the late 67-on Amazon. Conversion brackets are needed if fitting to a pre 67 car. It is also possible to fit the 140 rear axle by making brackets for it and this also gives a slightly wider track.
