Default volvo 122 with b20

Hi, I'm new on here so excuse my ignorance about Amazons.

I am thinking of getting one for Historic navigation events and some has told me they know of one with b20 engine but I thought these cars should have b18.
Obviously it would need to be correct spec as I think the historics are quite strict re period mods etc.
Anyone shed any light on this?
Also is it possible to get performance parts for these cars?
Thanks for listening.

If it is a factory fitted B20 then it will be a 2 door 131 or 133.
The 131 is single carb and the 133 is factory twin carb. The B18 and B20 are basicaly the same - the B20 is just an over bored B18. The B20 was fitted from 1968 on.

If a are cometing in a pre 67 class then you will need to fit a B18. I have some knocking about - I would be willing to swap.

I know that the 4 door saloons never had a factory fitted B20 but didn't some estates?

Hey there fella, is that you from v3m?
I've been told it's a 122s 1966 with o/d and it looks like retro fitted b20-so I guess it would need a b18 fitted-whether the g/box would be right I'm guessing someone on here would know.
Can much be done to b18 and are lsd/cages/susp readily available?
thanks in advance

Category 1 ." HERO" Pre 1960. If your Volvo has discs and/ or B18 , it is Cat 2
Category 2 : " Historic" 1960-67. If Your Volvo has a B20 it is Cat 3.
Category 3: "Post Historic" 1967- 74.

Hope this helps.

No estate cars had the B20, as Dai said its only two door cars from late 1968 ('69 model year) that had B20's. Same with the P1800.
The gearbox is the same though so a B18 will go straight in.

Thanks for all the replies-looks like it'll have to have a B18 in it then-anyone know if competition parts are available in UK or would it be cheaper to look out for a ready prepped car?

Are you sure about the Estates? I discussed this with Andy Rowlands at the National this year while we were judging an Estate car with overdrive. Andy reckoned that no Estate car in the Uk was sold with a B20, or with overdrive for that matter. Don't suppose it really matters unless your a stickler for originality.
