ETM white vs yellow sticker
2002 Volvo v70, petrol non-turbo, 270k miles (owned from new)
60k miles ago I had my electronic throttle module (ETM) replaced. The original ETM had a white sticker, while the replacement ETM had a yellow sticker. I have just had my yellow sticker ETM replaced by the Volvo main dealer with the software update (so I am now on my third ETM). I remember the yellow sticker ETMs were at one time thought better and that all replacements by Volvo were yellow. However, my latest ETM replacement has a white sticker. The original white sticker ETM lasted 109k miles while the replacement yellow sticker one has lasted 60k miles. So, my question is, is there these days any difference between white and yellow sticker ETMs? Thanks for any help. |

Yellow sticker had slightly thicker tracks on the potentiometers and new software suppose to be less sensitive to resistance difference so it would delay fault but it will fail over time as the white sticker.

I guess there are few of us running these older cars now, and hence the limited interest in this issue. I thought I would feedback anyway in case anyone else needs to change their ETM. Volvo told me that only the most up to date and improved versions will be in stock. I note also that my replacement white sticker ETM has a manufactured date in 2022 written on it. So, in conclusion I think we can forget about issues relating to yellow vs white stickers on from stock replacement ETMs from Volvo.

from what I recall when speaking to the dealers a while back, they usually ask for the old duff one back and they use the casing to rebuild them for resale (completely stripped down and using 100% new electrical components I'm assuming) because the casings aren't being made any more
so if that's the case you never truly get a 'new' unit as such but more remanufactured which is probably just as good anyway by that point, once rebuilt, yellow or white probably isn't at all relevant as you already figured above, because the issue of worn tracks is going to be a moot point isn't it and presumably when they do the programming you get the latest software anyway it does make me wonder, if they're doing that, do they fit a contactless sensor? which is clearly a much better idea Last edited by stuart bowes; Nov 8th, 2022 at 12:03. |

Over the years I read so frequently of XemodeX ETM rebuilding service, I thought it was the only way to go.
It's also nice Volvo dealerships haven't forsaken our ETM needs. Are the revised ETMs contactless or otherwise 'lifetime'? My 2007 non-turbo is immune from the thin/worn potentiometer wearout problem, yes? |

Yes, I think 2007 models don't have this issue. |
