Default overdrive gearbox identification: M46

dear all,

for some time I've been looking to replace the 4-speed M45 gearbox fitted to my 1978 244. many motorways miles around europe (just got back from Italy for maybe the 9th time in less than five years) are a testament not only to the car's amazing quality build, but to the need of a 5th gear too. I have been struggling to find one with overdrive as I'm told the 5-speed straight M47 needs modifications to fit into my year model (something related to the car having a mechanical and not electronic speedometer, if I'm not mistaken). now I have found this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VOLVO-240-...item20ec119708

on ebay and believe to be the one I need. plan would to secure it first and then having it replaced at a later stage. as I am poorly educated when it comes to mechanics, a little help from you knowledgeable people of the forum would be greatly appreciated!

many thanks in advance

I have just removed a 4 speed with overdrive from a volvo 245.
I shall check which box it is and I could sell it a lot cheaper than that one unless you have already purchased that one

I've got an M46 sat in my garage if you still need one?
