Default About to buy S80 - advice please guys

Hi all - I am about to buy an S80 T6 (again - see my previous post)! The wife now wants my 850-T5 (assuming she passes her test tomorrow!).

A local dealer has an R-reg S80 T6 in black with light grey leather/alacantra interior. It has 78000 miles on it. Also winter pack and rear sunblind fitted. Has slot laoding CD in dash. It also has Sat Nav fitted. Dealer is a Volvo specialist (were a main dealer for 28 years but now independant) - They have said that they will do the 80,000 mile service (inc. cambelt) before I buy it (and 12mths MOT and 6 mths tax) - I have got the price down to £8500.

A few questions if anyone can help :

1. Does that seem like a reasonable buy - all round condition is superb.

2. The small digital display inside the rev counter (I think it is clock and outside temp) is on but scrambled, is this a big repair?

3. I am worried about the gearbox (geartronic) - I have hear that they only manage 100k - I drive about 30k a year! Any thoughts ?

All advice much appreciated ! Cheers guys.

P.S. I will be having the ECU upgraded with the RICA map if it makes any difference to the gbox issue.

Must be a little unusal to be on a "R" plate, as the car was introduced around August 1998 ("S" plate start).

Price? 'trade' value is something under £7K and dealers are selling eg a 1999 on 45K miles for about £10K.

Your price sounds a little high for a non dealer. I would feel very much more comfortable with a 2 year Volvo used car warranty.

Scrambled display is a fault with the CEM (I think), which costs I don't know, but would guess a fair few pounds and will require a Volvo dealer to install - at least the software component.

Don't know about the gb.

Good luck!
