Default Warranty Extension

The manufacturers warranty on my `01 S80 runs out this month albeit it is extended to June as per buying a Volvo selected used car fitting the appropriate criteria.

Does anyone know what the likely cost of extending the warranty for a further 12 months will be and whether it is worth extending the warranty?

If it helps, I renewed the warranty on my S70 with Warranty Holdings for £290 for the year with everything covered and no milage limit. I have had this in place for 2 years now and it has proved every bit as comprehensive as the origonal Volvo warranty plus my local dealer is happy to do all the admin and bill them direct so no paying out and claiming back :)

I looked into this when my 1999 model warrantry expired. It was going to be about £500 for a year, and I decided that hopefully nothing would be needed that would cost more than that. I did look at other warranty company offerings, and even though some people have been satisfied with them, I decided that the exclusions were too numerous.

Make sure anything possible is done before your exisiting warranty runs out.

Thanks, folks.

For around £500 I would probably go for a Volvo warranty so long as it does not have a list of exclusions from here to Kingdom Come! I've noticed that when you buy a used car with the remainder of a manufacturers warranty and enquire about extending it, the price you are initially told is normally quite different from that which is then offered 12 months later ie, significantly lower to begin with! Strange, that!!! I was told around £300 last June, slightly more if I took RAC cover as well - we'll see then. I've also noticed that the level of cover one is told to expect from extending the warranty often isn't quite right. This was beautifully hilighted recently when my fathers Lexus warranty was due to expire. The deal was excellent - £500 a year or pay for two years up front and pay £800. However, the all-embracing manufacturers warranty turned out to be an insurance policy endorsed by the supplying dealer. Not quite what my father and I were told by the salesman when the car was bought from them.

Caveat emptor, I believe.
