Default Seat memory buttons - Why does the operation change?

Hi All,

XC60 seat memory buttons on the drivers side. Why is it that sometimes a single press and release will keep the seat moving automatically whereas other times you need to keep the button held down until in position?

My wife last drove the car and the key is linked to her settings, so the seat was left in her positions. This morning I got in and pressed the button once and it moved. Got to the place I was going and locked the car, got back in, then the seat started to go back to my wife's position as expected as it's tied to the key. I pressed number 2 to stop the movement, but then had to keep the button held down to get to my position whereas when I first got in a single press worked.

I wondered if the act of pressing the button as it's moving cancels the full/auto move, so does it need to fully move to my wife's position in order to maintain the automated move. The answer is no. I left it locked in my positions, opened and it started to move to my wife's positions as expected. Pressed number 2, stopped, pressed again once, moved automatically when I let go. I even pressed Number 1 and it moved automatically and then I pressed number 2 again and auto continued to work, so what the hell is going off?

What I did manage to do is make it throw a tantrum. It was locked, opened, started moving to my wife' positions so I pressed number 2, started moving. Then pressed number 1 and it stopped, pressed 1 again and it started moving to 1 positions, all good. Then pressed number 2 and it stopped, pressed 2 again and it continued to move to number 1 positions!!! Managed to replicate it 3 times, yet all still automatic and not having to hold the button down.

I've tried sitting in the seat vs out, no difference. Not sure if time makes a difference but I don't see why and it doesn't seem to play a factor.

Any ideas?

On my car the behaviour seems to relate to whether the door is open or closed. It might also depend upon the ignition status but I'm not sure on that one.

I'd not considered the door status as being a potential influence, so cheers for that. I'll try it and report back.

I'm 99% sure I've tried with and without ignition and it was the same, but again I'll try it and report back.

If the door is open a single press will move all the seat and mirror settings. This is so you can make a selection before getting in the car.
If you are in the seat with the door closed you have to hold it down. I believe this is is for safety to prevent crush injuries.

Can you not use one key for you and another key for the wife and use driver profiles? Then when you open the door it all gets itself ready for you. It would be nicer if it did it when you unlocked, then you wouldn't have to stand in the rain waiting for the flippin' seat to go through the motions!

We do use the profiles, but only my wife has a paired key as it's her car so I just select my profile when in the car.

I agree on the move when unlock thing, very annoying. Wish it was a system setting or just set as default.

no our car we have his and hers keys however if we are both getting in the car the driver has to open the door first if the passenger opens the door before the driver it sets the seat to whoever opened the door first we never press fobs `or seat buttons the keys stay in pocket or handbag it just need a little thinking about on approach if both key holders are present
