Under the bonnet is the B20 engine. Didn’t trust Volvo engineers and decided to install a late 1993 240 radiator and fan. Might be too large for the b20?
Any idea why doesn’t warm up? Even at 75mph on the motorway during a 40 Celsius hot day!
Good morn,

Are you sure the motor is running too cool and the issue is not with the gauge? It is a good idea to measure the temperature independently. A good way to do this is with an IR thermometer at the thermostat housing.

With a previous 240 (the RB) I found the motor was running fine, but the voltage stabiliser for the instruments had failed (hence the gauge read too high). I replaced it with a solid state device like this:

... and the instruments worked perfectly.

If you do find the motor car isn't getting up to temperature you could mask part of the radiator with a piece of cardboard, experimenting with the size until you get it right. I would check the motor is actually running cool (as above) first though.

Good fortune,

Alan

I was under the impression that the B20 OHV unit was North-America only while the SOHC B21 slant-4 was the European-market engine.

Hi Alan, thanks for the time.
I have not given a thought to that since all parts are new. And can’t get any warm air in the cabin, just 10/12 Celsius inside when outside it 2 Celsius.

@adammerve for a short amount of time, probably 6/8 months the european 245 had the B20 engine. Quite random assignation to different markets as I see around. Someone here said b20 was never on Uk 245.

You could still check the engine temperature with an IR thermometer, and then if necessary shield the radiator with some cardboard.

Long story short. After thinking all the possible causes of the engine not going up to temperature…the thermostat was missing…NO COMMENT.
The housing was empty…
Meantime I have sent my Stromberg out for replacing a few bits and it came back completely damaged by the “expert”. When the engine is hot the engine doesn’t start… there is no vacuum…what a mess.
Now looking to get a Stromberg replacement or swop tu SU.

You would , in my opinion, be better off getting a rebuild kit (about Ł50)and doing the job yourself.
I find trusting someone else to do the job for you is a minefield with many horror stories on this forum of sub standard work at exorbitant prices.
Take your time and many photographs. Noting how many turns mixture screws etc require for disassembly and reverse the process.
The vacuum is usually down to the Diaphragm and the ATF in the damper.

I know many here have rebuilt carbs and would be only to glad to assist in any way they can.

Thanks for the great advice. I will definetly rebuilt it myself. time to grow some balls

Meantime I have been offered a NOS SU carb, which I have taken immediately. I hope this will be the end of endless little annoying issues.
Now need to check if it is an easy swop or a difficult swop.

Good to report the SU is a straight swop. Engine side and filter box it’s a match.
I just need to figure out the cable connection to the gas pedal. The stromberg is slightly different.
