Default clutch - best replacement questions

Hi all

Want to make sure I get this job done proper ! Can you share your thoughts on the following please:

1) 98 S70 manual 2.5 10v, are the LUK parts the same as volvo parts? (apart from the name). Im going to replace the clutch and internal slave cyl.

2) Car only on 63k miles and there is no noise or vibration just a bit of clutch slip so not expecting issues with the DMF (fingers crossed).

3) Labour quotes are 250 at local garage or 420 at a volvo indie. Is this a volvo mechanic only job do you think?

4) Also going to change rear main oil seal, is there anything else I should get done with the box dropped?

5) What grease should be used on the clutch/gearbox splines. We have already told local garage not to use copper based grease in case it gets on the clutch plates.

Ta, will let you know how it goes...

Mike

Whilst the 'box is out have both of your driveshaft output seals changed. They're only cheap and will save a lot of work if the originals fail after re assembly.

Mines going in for a DMF and I'm getting them to do mine.

good idea on the seals, how much is a DMF? I would prefer to put a single flywheel back but I do not believe they are interchangeable in this way.

They're a few hundred quid even if you source one from an indy supplier. Then several hours labour. Mine's under warranty so I'm not having to foot the bill thank god.

Hi there, i would recomend LUK clutches all day long, they are oe to a vast amount of New Vehicles, including Mercedes.
From what i read on here Sachs are oe to Volvo, i sell New Parts for Vehicles and i can honestly say I would Personally Rate LUK over Sachs, That is ONLY a personal opinon.
Either manufacturer is Top Quality, and i would be dissapointed with either.

Might be worth getting the thrust bearing done at the same time... just a thought - I heard they only seem to last 100k where as the clutch should last 150k...... so quite how your car needs a new one so soon is a bit of a quandry.
