Poorly electric aerial
My electric aerial is poorly (C70, 2001).
It always worked fine but a few days ago started to stick on both the way up and down. Now it is mostly sulking and staying down in the wing. When I can get it up (ooh er) I have cleaned it and sprayed it with WD40. Then it works for a few attempts but then goes back to sulking in the wing. Any ideas please? |

If you can get the base off, you need to. It will be full of muck and the mast will keep coating itself with it everytime you use it. Otherwise you'll just have to keep wiping and spraying with WD I'm afraid. Or get a new one

Now the little.................blighter........is only popping up a few inches and staying there, until you switch the radio off then it pops down again.

Have you tried giving it a gentle tug whilst its trying to raise itself?
Ooh Matron

I think you would be better off using some lubricating oil (like 3 in 1 or 151 multi purpose.....that sort of stuff) as wd40 will dry out much quicker.

If you can get it fully extended, give it a good clean with Brasso or similar and then wipe it down with a rag soaked in light lubricating oil like 3 in 1.
WD40 will be doing more harm than good. |

Thanks.
I will try tomorrow (if I can get the thing back up.....). Not sure I have 3 in 1: would grease work? |

Don't use grease, it'll be far too heavy and will trap all the crud in it which is probably why the thing's not working now. Basically it needs to be as smooth as possible with just a little light lubrication.
Even engine oil would be better than grease or WD40. |
