V70R with a Dodgy Auto Box
I'm in the market for a V70 Estate. Must be a Petrol and I like my performance cars. I spotted this one on eBay and Autotrader
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...tchlink:top:en Looks a great car apart from the Auto box playing up. As this is a Volvo Specialist selling, I'm guessing they've tried flushing/changing all the tranny fluids. So it probably needs a rebuild. What would the gearbox code be on this vehicle? Any opinions on cost to repair? |

The car is a bit pricey with that fault.
I would guess 12-15 hours to swap box. But the it the oil lines & cooler would need a very good clean ,remove parts. At the end of the day the Auto box is not the one the car should have they should be manual. |

Hi. Do you mean the car has had a manual box changed for an Auto? Or that these cars should never have come with an Auto as it's pants? 12-15 hours is a lot of labour. Even at mate's rates my mechanic would be looking €600, plus the cost of a reconditioned box if I can find one. There are some on eBay around £1200. Best to knock them down on price you think?

I see what you mean. Not a gearbox to be found. Although it would help if I had a part number. A manual conversion could be a possibility but I'd need a box, pedalbox and goodness knows what else.

The gearbox may not need changing. I had a similar fault with mine and it was something very simple. After 05 the auto boxes were upgraded along with other items. Mine has covered 142k and still going ok.
I love the auto box for around town it's much improved over the aw55/51 5sp. The price is too high, no tax or mot and gearbox issues hmmm. Mine had a split liner, which I repaired and that had also been fine, no loss or use of water in the last 500 miles. But buying a damaged car is always a gamble. I think its £2500 for a box from Volvo, may be worth reading the codes? But it's got to be less than £3500 to make sense to buy it. |

Thanks SCVolvo. If I bought it I would try a transmission oil flush first. Although the Dealer says this will not fix it.
It could be a valve pack. But is it worth the risk at that money? No. They aren't interested in negotiating on price. I found an Ad from Feb for the same car at £7250. They say they're trying to get back what the car owes them. I say forget it. I found another one on eBay. A manual. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1413059501...84.m1423.l2649 I'm watching it and may bid. |
