Yes is definetly been done. basically you have to modify the bulkhead around the clutch to fit a front mounted gearbox, then fit live axle of choice.
The 360 drive is good for 250bhp from a 700/900 B230 turbo without significant modification, if you want more you need a front mounted gearbox and 900 drive/axle. |

There are 360's with over 300BHP running on the original TT and gearbox.
The 363CS was built with a modified 240 rear axle. There are a number of solid axle conversions that have been done but maybe the better idea is to do the same as the V8 360 using a diff like the Nissan one with modified driveshafts and custom prop. |

Interesting stuff. Perhaps it could be a way of uprating a 340 without having to rob bits off of a 360 to do it.
I don't have either but do have a spare 940 with an engine and gearbox. I was really thinking of somewhere interesting to put it. |

You could use a 340 but a 360 would be a better base.

I guess a 360 would have all the engine mounts etc there already. There doesn't seem to be a huge amount of 360's left now though and it would be a shame to mess about with a decent one when there seems to be more unloved 340's about.
It's all just an idea at the moment and I ought to do something with the remains of the spares 940 really. |

I've converted a mk1 343 to 360 running gear, but it's not completely trivial. I'd start with a 360 if one was available!
Torque is the issue, so 300bhp achieved via a stock 8v head, a small(ish) turbo and a ton of boost will probably be a problem (over 300lbft torque), while making the engine breathe at high RPM and keeping the boost down will keep the torque down at the same bhp point. That's my plan - hot cam, large(ish) turbo, tubular manifold (exhaust, maybe intake)...but only about 15psi of boost. Joni was running north of 330bhp on his 360 with a standard drivetrain (aside from a welded diff - my plan is to use an LSD) with no problems, but his car had a 16v head and a large turbo, which would have helped greatly. cheers James
