  • VOC Members: There is no login facility using your VOC membership number or the details from page 3 of the club magazine. You need to register in the normal way

Default S80D5 Transmission oil

hi All

I am looking for recomendations to what type of oil I need to change my transmission oil I have the AISIN aw 55-50sn box it has 150,000 on the clock, supposed to have full service history by a indi garage but they are not forcoming in telling what and when, so I hope you can steer me in the right direction

A fluid meeting the JWS 3309 spec is what you need.
Volvo fluid is quite dear and many avoid it. Many others will use only that.
Finding real Mobil 3309 is a rarity in shops over here in No, America, don't know about the UK.
Toyota T-IV is what most people use going by what they post on Volvo boards. It's readily available.
Valvoline brand MaxLife Dex/Merc LV (the LV is what makes it not old fashioned Dex/Merc) is one I've used gallons of.
In the UK you may have access to PertoCanada synthetic Universal fluid.
There's a company from Germany which sells a 20l keg at a good price in Europe. Many use that.

Are you doing this work yourself? Don't let some careless monkeys lie to you and use whatever. Some fluids can damage your transmission.

you might find it cheaper elsewhere

not sure if your box is same as mine, but mine took about 3ltrs so that's 3 drain and fills in one tub (do a few hundred miles in between)

check correct procedure before getting stuck in
