Sounds like it has suffered a heavy impact to the front wheel, may be worthwhile having a four wheel alignment check done.

Been and picked up a decent wheel to replace the buckled one today[and had a pleasant day out in Mablethorpe at the same time]so when that goes on a 4 wheel alignment is on the cards too, already making enquiries about any local places that have a good reputation in this regard as I believe some places while they might have the equipment to do it don't necessarily have the know how.

Just a brief update on this. For various reasons looking at the car when expected didn't happen[plan now is to look at it tomorrow]a couple of other things also spring to mind that have been bothering me since the gearbox change. The drivers side driveshaft has a flanged rubber collar on it,this is about 2" long the inboard flange butts up against the ABS ring while the outer flange would I imagine butt up against the back of the wheel bearing and the collar is only a loose fit on the shaft.I can't recall seeing such a thing when I changed the o/s wheel bearing on my V70 nor have I seen it on pictures of new/used driveshafts. There seems to be no reference to it in Haynes and looking on such as E-Bay no-one seems to be selling one as a replacement part.Should it be there? The second thing is the hole in the end of the driveshaft where the centre bolt screws in is full of grease that looks to be the same type as used in CV joints, obviously the threads of the centre bolt are also coated in the same grease, surely that shouldn't be the case?

Well this car is fighting us all the way N/S front strut replacement went smoothly[far easier than we thought it might]then it was round to the O/S to replace the wheel bearing and that's where it all fell apart, the lower bolt holding the brake caliper carrier is not only rusted to the knuckle but the bolt head has previously been rounded off. So for the present the saga continues.

You are going to need some proper heat on that with a good pair of grips. You will most likely need oxy-acetylene to get that to release!

Back at it yesterday.Took the steering knuckle off[complete with bearing/hub of course]and took it to a local garage and they got the carrier bolts out plus as I'd seen that the four bolts holding the bearing to the knuckle also looked pretty rusted up and the bolt heads appeared rather chewed up I got them to extract those also.Back at the car and a slim chisel and lump hammer were needed to separate the bearing/hub from the knuckle. At least reassembly went smoothly after a bit of cleaning up of the knuckle. So new bearing installed, new[second hand]strut also installed and with fingers firmly crossed a test drive undertaken and sucess the horrible vibration the car has had since she bought it has now been banished.Next on agenda replacing both broken rear springs, this car I feel is now[albeit slowly]is receiving the love and attention it deserves.

Good to see an abused C70 coming back to life instead of being broken - as so many are at the moment. 👍
