Workhour in official Volvo service (in my country) is 165 GBP, I saw the price just yesterday

If you have bought a 2WD D4 then you have the 2.0 4 cyl engine that had the design flaw on the EGR cooler (seems they folded it over to fit it in and the 180 degree bend they introduced in the heat exchanger matrix gets clogged with soot over time) anyway long story short there was a software update related to this issue in addition to the physical work to rectify. I believe it allows the engine to reach full temp quicker and maybe even run leaner/hotter than before to discourage build up of soot in the cooler.

Is there a way to identify whether this work has been done on my car?

I have bought a 2016 XC60 R Design Lux Nav D4 (2wd) from a Volvo specialist which is great but I am not sure when the software was updated last.

The specialist rather dismissed the concept of software updates as a main delay ploy which doesn’t really do anything, but this may have been because he did not have the connection or kit to do it.

I know that many of the updates are more concerned with drivability, gearbox and engine management.

Is there anywhere that I can find a list of the updates which could be applied to my car and what changes they made?

Can I pay a one off fee (how much) to a Volvo dealer to be brought up to date?
Thanks in advance.

Your specialist isn't that much of a specialist if he can't do software updates.

Just get a dealer service next time its due. You're doubtless recoiling in horror at the suggesion, but youll get an automatic software update and £200 worth of Volvo Assist. Thats why I stick with the dealer rather than Hortons (who can do software uodates) - it would cost more for Hortons to service it and then buy the breakdown cover separately than just chucking the keys at the dealer.

I bought the car from Hortons - who serviced it before I bought it. It won't be due again until March. I got the distinct impression from Graham at Hortons that the software update was not a big deal and they wouldn't bother doing it.

Having had my last three Volvos (company cars) serviced and software upgraded at main dealers, I am not so sure - hence my question!

I would rather pay a local dealer £70 (or similar) to update the software so I get optimum performance before the next service is due.

Yes the radiator top hose should go straight to the engine block without any T connection to the EGR cooler. It's harder to tell if you have the updated cooler though.

There's a before and after photo in this thread somewhere...

Here it is, in case you don't want to scroll through all 259 pages (!) of the EGR thread.

https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showp...postcount=1539

The T-piece on the upper radiator hose is removed with the modification and replaced by a straight through hose. There's also some modification to other smaller hoses which have jubilee clips instead of the original pipe clips.

By way of an update, my local dealer has quoted me £101.75 and can do the update at a 2 hour while you wait appointment.

I don't *think* specialist can do it - even if they have a fully licensed VIDA, I believe they have to purchase every software package separately.

Only Volvo dealers and possibly authorised repairers can plug in an scan all modules, updating any where new software is available, and there is no charge for this other than labour.

As said I think that rather than know it. Clan?
