Air con leak somewhere??
Hey
Well the sun is out, and only now do I decide to get my air con gassed (as never worked before, assumed loss of gas), but I have been told the local garage, that it's leaking and they don't know where from? They explained it's not holding gas, as they left the pressure in, but leaked out somewhere? I asked is there any way they could find out where the leak is? They said they could, but will charge me (no charge so far) Any ideas where I should look? How do I know if the condenser is knackerd? Thanks

I had a similar issue and went to ats euromaster to have a free check they told me I had no leaks which wasnt the case so I returned to the shop were I had my aircon recharged and he put some dye in the system and found the reciever dryer to be leaking so it was a cheap fizx as eurocarparts have the part for under twenty quid with the extra15 promo code easy to install your self. So just find a place who recharge aircons and have them put dye in it who ever recharged your aircon should do it free of charge as they should have checked for leaks while it was pressurised.

If anything demand that they regas it for free once you fix the leak. Realistically its against the law for a aircon specialist to just refill tour gas without checking for leaks as it harmful to the environment. Find a ac shop using groupon its very cheap and most of them are good nd not cowboys.

Is it worth me calling back the garage and asking them to run the dye? As this should be done anyway to find the leak?

Depends how much they charge you but be warned they might not even find the fault and still charge what I always do is pay after the problem is fixed. Did the aircon work when u got it recharged?

They told me the air con would not hold gas when pressurised so they did not fill it, just told me there is a leak somewhere.

They are supposed to fill the system with nitrogen gas to leak test it , easy to find then with some soapy water ( look for the bubbles ) , Also the Dye is standard from the factory .. Very rare for a S40/V40 to loose it's gas !

What do reckon could be the culprit? Condenser, as this seems to get all the crap from the road thrown up at it?

One of the the alluminium pipes could crack due to vibration . It just needs a proper pressure leak test .
