Today, oil change, oil filter and fuel filter. Struggled a bit priming the fuel system but worked it out eventually. Last week: two new rear shocks and shock mounts (easy).

Went into reverse after stopping then an almighty crunching noise ! Tried to go forward , the same, thought I must have hit a rock , got out and then noticed nearside wheel facing a different direction !!! and rubbing against the wheel arch. Also noticed bits of Ball joint and Track rod End laying around , Luckily we are in the process of moving and kept the trolley jack in the rear, managed to jack the Floating wheel etc Up and got a passing motorist to pull me into the side of the road , Looks an Expensive job ? Even found a Bearing later and the drive shaft is floating about !!

hi willow,
sounds like a near miss, I guess the ball joint must have failed in a big way, what car & mileage is it at? and do you have any sort of annual inspection like an mot here in the UK?, were you getting and noises before it let go? |

Yesterday I realized I haven't driven my beloved V70 in 8 days.
A neighbor demands I exercise his car and I've done the same with my wee truck. For the past 3 days I've been replacing windows in the land of apples and cows using my wife's car. She too wants hers exercised. |

mines also going to be more dormant now for a while, weather improving, cycling to work across the park is a lot more enjoyable than sitting in traffic
over the weekend i did 3 reasonably longish runs and saw 28mpg?! shows how much my urban driving is killing that economy (usually around 22.5 on a weekly basis) also that the things I've done to improve mpg over the the last year have definitely paid off, that's the closest I've seen to 30 yet got a replacement drivers side door rubber seal for £40 on ebay and will fit that soon, that'll be the last remaining physical flaw sorted still checking fluids on a regular basis despite not leaking or burning a single drop of anything. previous cars have made me paranoid might even give it a wash at the weekend and brave going near the rear seats to clean up the kids area Last edited by stuart bowes; Mar 22nd, 2022 at 13:00. |

Re the rear seats..............double mask with a carbon filter in between copes with most of the offensive odours........the worst one is spilled goat's milk in the rear cargo area which as you are probably aware is even worse than muddy pond slime post golden retriever happy splashy hour!

Changed the gearbox fluid via sump dump. Hadnt done it in a while (6k miles) so thought I'd do it whilst it was dry and warm out. Also ordered oil service bits and the two hydraulic engine mounts while ebay had a discount code running.
The cables around my hydraulic mounts are slack so whilst they're not leaking they do look to be collapsed / squished somewhat. Hopefully this will reduce some of the vibration i have at idle and generally improve NVH. |

V70 D5 2003 ,318km , Annual inspection , no noises, Bottom ball joint ( Lemforder) maybe 5km , it appears to have completely seized and sheared off , made a right mess of the Aluminum wishbone !! Also ripped the drive shaft out, wheel arch not looking good either !

Managed to finally find a replacement seat base for my s60 in the correct colour, found a breaker online (ebay)who had an s60 in, due to health and safety these days they don't allow people to wander around anymore, after a few messages they kindly arranged for the donor car to be placed somewhere accessible so i could remove the seat base myself and be safely out of the way. Now have to clean it up and feed the leather ready for the big swap .
