Soot filter or Turbo
I have a Volvo V70 D5 SE E4 2401CC registered 30/03/2007 with 199.5k on the clock.
In recent months my oil usage has shot up but also there appears to be some leaking of (i think fuel but may not be) on my driveway where the car is parked. The computer messages on the dashboard I have received have been triggered every time i press hard on the accelerator. There feels like a sudden drop in power from the engine when I do so. The message refers to the 'soot filter'. The car goes in to a pseudo limp mode - and whilst I can continue to drive e.g. at 70mph on the motorway, going up steeper hills there is none of the usual responsiveness to the accelerator and the engine power suddenly drops leaving me going up hills like a large truck sometimes at 40-50mph by the top. Accelerating from a standing start going up a hill is very slow to get going - it's fine when at the top of the hill the responsiveness picks up. On a longer drive the other day - when this was happening I suddenly got a further message saying oil was low (despite me having filled it up a week before) - and the oil level had indeed dropped. If I switch the engine off and leave it a while then the messages go away. It is only triggered when I press hard on the accelerator. I took it in to be serviced and they said one of the pipes did need replacing but I don't think this has solved the problem - since it is still happening. The car has only ever been serviced by a Volvo franchised dealer and I took it in twice in the last two months - without the problem being solved and being significantly out of pocket. I am keen to understand what possible causes may be since each time I take it in the price is high and I need to get the service dealer to check for the right problems since at the moment I am not convinced they are. Why have you paid them if they have not done the repair you asked them to?
