Another vote for the Three prepaid data SIM. I got the 24GB for 24 months option from Argos for I think £45. I was averaging about 1GB / month but that has gone up after a week's holiday in the Scottish Highlands. My wife's and my phone both struggled to maintain a signal inside the car, so we relied on the car's better antenae on the roof and hence were using the car's WiFi hotspot a lot more.

My 100Gb/1Yr free Internet with Vodafone expired this week. I'd used 89GB in the 12 months as I use Spotify and TuneIn heavily (DAB sounds terrible to my ears!).
I bought an EE 120GB 12 Month sim for £50 from Argos. So far, it seems to connect faster than the Vodafone sim on startup too, so i'm a happy camper! |

As others have said, data usage depends upon your individual choices. One thing I'm sure of is that very few people use the full 100 GB Volvo supply via Vodaphone. The cynic in me sees that as a marketing ploy by Vodaphone.
Whilst the sim is 'active' you can show the amount of data remaining. I'm not too sure if this will work on an expired sim. I suggest you get a limited data sim, say 12 month, 12Gb (your choice) and monitor usage over a period to establish a 'norm'

It would be interesting to know how many actually did continue with Vodafone after the first free year.

I use a Smarty Sim in mine, I had it on a £7 8gb per month automatically renewing 1month contract, but I stopped the auto renew as we weren't really using the data all that much. However, the next time we go away on holiday I'll be starting it back up again because my son likes to watch videos in the car whilst we're driving.

One advantage for me having a 3 data sim in the car is it is always on when the car is and no faffing about with the phone or charging leads to keep the phone charged, and I can take the sim card out and use it in my MiFi modem in the caravan when my phone "EE Sim" has no signal to use as a shared WiFi. (which is often).

Now I'm pleased because the maps just auto update on this sim in background with just a very small pause while it switches over. Also the remote start is a great feature but I'm not sure if the system supporting the OnCall does this without a sim or indeed the vehicle tracking if it's stolen?

Another vote for Three.
Think I paid about £30 for two years and 24gb. Never used the in car WiFi, but will try it out once my SIM runs out. I only use it for live traffic updates so might as well just use my phone's internet. So with the WiFi can anyone in the car connect if I have passengers? I take it this would drain my own data if other passengers were using my phone connection to connect to the internet? |
