Default correct powersteering fluid

I guess this has been asked two million times. Sorry, cant figure out the search function.
Does my V70 P80 year 2000 need old fashioned Dexron ATF or green pentosin?
The car has the "new" B5244S2 engine. fluid reservoir is next to the coolant reservoir, not on the pump.

Probably pentosin. Take the cap off the reservoir and look at the seal, if it's green then you need pentosin, if it's red then Dexron 3.

I'll look into that in the morning. The current fluid ( old ) I cant really tell the color of :-) maybe I shuold flush the system while putting in another pump.

Do you know when they went to pentosin instead of ATF?
It's my understanding, that the P26 always uses pentosin.
But did it change with the introduction of the B5244S2 or when the reservoir moved to the strut tower or what? 940 uses atf in 98, thats for sure.

The V40 changed fluid type in around 2000. It may have been linked to the Ford takeover as many changes took place then.

From what I read when looking into changing mine it was around about 1999. Again, from nothing more than reading lots of stuff on the internet, it seems the key is not to have a mixture of ATF and Pentosin but rather to suck all the old stuff out and replace with new.

The handbook (if you have it) will tell you whether it's red Dexron or green CHF.

As far as I am aware a good indication is the colour of reservoir cap top 'writing'. White for Dextron and, not to confuse matters red for CHF.

Highly likely to be CHF, which doesn't stop many having ATF in there. B*ggers rack seals sharpish.
