Default V40 key fob issue

Hi. Both of the keyfobs of my 2012 V40 have been playing up recently, with three or four button presses being needed before the car unlocks/locks. The problem was not improved by changing the fob batteries for new ones. I fitted Energizer batteries with the correct identifier name, which should be a reasonably quality make. A Volvo dealer has told me they have seen keyfob problems when batteries other than “Volvo batteries sold by our parts department” are fitted. The Volvo batteries are £6 each. Can this be true? What are your experiences with “Branded”batteries vs “Volvo” batteries for a keyfob? Thanks.

You may have been unlucky but I've never had a problem with branded batteries- normally via ebay for a Volvo & Ford.

I wont pay inflated dealer prices for what is a bought in item anyway.
You may have a problem with the fobs?
Had a couple play up on a V70 so repaired via a company on ebay that also do the internal parts- couple of years back but all fine to date.

Can't remember the company right now but you will find relating mail under the
early V70 forum sections.

I do have their business card on file and can send over details if you wish.
Bob.

Can you test the voltage of the batteries with a multimeter to verify the charge? I've had "brand name" batteries come from internet sources that have little charge in them...
