Default V90 suspension (lowering)?

Hi......expect a few questions from me in the next few days

Im currently looking for a nice V90 and whilst ive been browsing the 'net ive noticed that a fair few of our european friends have lowered their V90s and they look miles better!

Ive found that a company called PI does a set of 40mm lowering springs for the V90 but what concerns me is the suspension system

Am I correct in thinking that the rear is self levelling and if so would using shorter springs muck this up?

Thanks for any advice

Simon

your V90 should have IRS and a parabolic composite leaf spring at the back - so the lowering springs from PI wont help , unless it is Live axle .

the lowered leaf springs are available from volvo - dont ask me how much tho .

you should still be able to use nivomats with it - altho there maybe a different nivomat part number to go with the spring .

one or two people have done it on here - do a search .

Hi,

The V90 is deffo an IRS set-up, not a live axle.

The spring comes in 2 strengths for either self levelling (Nivomats) or non self levelling.
The "spring" costs about £150 for the strong one and £140 for the weak one.
Ordered from Sweden. I have posted some photos in this very section of it.

I suspect that if you leave the weak spring in and get a lowered Nivomat and drop the front suspension by, say 25mm, you should get the desired result.

The problem will be finding the correct length of Nivomat thats 25mm shorter than the original.

Or you get the stronger spring and use regular "shorter" shocks.

Just a thought, but Volvo do specify a lowering kit for the V90. Might be worth checking with a dealer for the part numbers and price. Make sure you are sitting down when they add it up though!

Cheers,
Paul.

Doh!

Never thought of that!

I would imagine that it'll cost from the main dealer! But as I am selling my Range Rover (2001MY) I should have a few quid over for spending on the V90!

Im hoping that a budget of £5000 should get me a nice V90

Well now, I think, if it is available, Volvo call it a "Road Holding Kit".

They certainly have a "Road Holding Kit for the 940 series, but that is now a discontinued part.
The individual items can be ordered for it separately....

I have not seen, or did not notice, the came for the V90 but it would be worth asking the Parts staff if it exists and also what the component parts are...

I know when trying to check an issue with my 940 that GSF did not have a shortened Nivomat listed for the 940 from Boge...
So try and get the Volvo part number AND the Boge part if you can..

Des. . .

EDIT: Post Number 8000...

Prices from 2005 when i enquired.

Front kit for Manual transmission Cars 1394 862-5 £213.04

Front kit for Auto Transmission Cars 9134 930-8 £213.04

Rear kit for 4dr Cars 3529 921-3 £529.57

Rear kit for 5dr Cars 1394 858-3 £529.57

Anti Roll bar 1343 274-5 £176.53

If the car allready has Nivomat self leveling suspension you do not need to buy the rear anti roll bar mentioned above.

Any more info required on this please ask as i went through all the parts in depth in 2005 regarding lowering the late cars.
