Auto dimming dash lights question - Page 2

Thanks for the replies. I guess I should have said it's a 2007 MK3 (assuming that's what it's called in Volvo language) so I'm not sure if that means various sensors are in different places.

Today was a good example, a grey day so the lights dimmed making it hard to see the Sat Nav clearly. I realise it's not a major issue, but it does seem strange that it can't be overridden.

What position do you have the light switch in? I think if the switch is in the daytime position, then the dash lights will stay on bright. In the US models with daytime running lights enabled, the dipped headlights are on in the daytime position but the high beams will not stay on when toggled on.

I thought the sensor for ambient light was in the rear view mirror housing not on the dashboard.

Daft Q maybe but is it not controlled by the dash lighting brightness adjustment ? I've not got SatNav but the brightness of all the other dash lights is controlled by the adjustment dial for the speedo etc....

In my 2004 model the sensor doesn't seem to do anything, I have the light switch on the Auto position, and tried both to cover and to put a flash light on the sensor, the center console lights won't change in intensity.

This is all very nice but you do realise OP has a gen3, not a P2.

I've tried the light switch in all positions but it doesn't make a difference. Also the brightness adjustment wheel makes no difference to the brightness once it's auto dimmed (apart from dimming it further)
It's not that I can't live with it, it's just a tad annoying.

Having said that, after nearly 4 months of ownership I think it's a great car, amazing power. We've done two trips to Cornwall from Sussex so far and the seats are just so comfortable. Plus I think the fuel economy is fairly reasonable. Apart from the above minor annoyance I'm well pleased with it.
