ah yeah that would make sense re: stronger joint I suppose
the one I linked still probably would stretch over it I guess it would be harder work though I just preferred to not mess about with dismantling the joint itself which is a bit messy and getting the shaft out at the 'box end can be a bit of drama |

Throttle body repair
Completed throttle body repair on my 2002 v70. It was suffering from irregular tick over and running. Issue diagnosed by an independent Volvo specialist who advised a new throttle body or send for repair.
Not being able to find a suitable repairer, I bought a contactless replacement TPS and went about fitting it myself, not too difficult although digging out the silicone around the contacts was a bind. Interestingly, the instructions tell you to cut off the rotating shaft and then unscrew the base nut - not a good idea as you're left with nothing to grip when trying to unscrew an exceedingly tight nut! The contact prongs on the new TPS were pretty short but I'd already decided to hand over the soldering of the new connections to my local auto electrical specialist - he only wanted a fiver but I couldn't give him less than a tenner for a job like that! Now fitted and the engine is running much smoother and no coughing on acceleration. Job well done.

turned out it was worth a try then, sounds like you got lucky on that one
presumably the idea of the cutting first is that removing the nut afterwards straightens out the thread again for ease of getting the nut back on.. but there's other ways of dealing with that Last edited by stuart bowes; Mar 14th, 2024 at 01:42. |

I don't like it when something doesn't work. My headlamp washers (no wipers) had never squirted water, but I had put this aside, again and again, until my screen washer pump packed up. Trawled eBay for replacements for both pumps, screen pump £9 headlamp pump (only one I could find £30 !). Fitted both pumps, screenwash was back to get through the MOT, but headlamp washers still not working (although I could hear the pump running - noisy...)
Had the bumper off the other day to change bulbs, so took all the pipework and valve off to check over. pipework all clear but valve not working on one side (had to use a footpump to give enough pressure - you cannot just blow down the pipes). Back to eBay, nothing for direct replacement, but found a check valve for a SAAB 93. Looked the right size so took a punt at £11. Was the right size, fitted today, headlamps all squirted with screenwash on first press of the wiper stalk. Result.

My V70 R has developed a clunk. I wonder if it's st do with the subframe bushing insert work but I can't figure out quite where it's coming from.
I dunno if these Subframe O-Rings might help (https://www.ipdusa.com/products/8283...knocking-noise) Or should I start with something like anti-roll bars links all round or front ball joints? I have had car up on a ramp with my friendly mechanic and couldn't see anything obvious. Happens slow speed over rough roads https://youtube.com/shorts/SyZGCAHczAc
