Hi again, do you know if the 140 & 240 shared the same windshield.
If mine breaks on removal I was thinking it would easier to get a 240 one rather than getting a 140 one from Sweden. I know that there might be an issue on fitting as the early 140 are non bonded.

The screen is the same, a bonded 240 screen will fit a rubber seal 140 without any issues.

Are they readily available from the usual windscreen repair companies?

164 bonded screen is also the same.

If keeping the creen trim on 140's 164's and early 240's you will also need new clips that go in around the screen

You can use the original style rubber seal, there is no need to bond it into the car.

I would never use a bathroom silicone sealant on a car. It contains acetic acid, which is the cause of the bad, irritating smell. And as you know acid and steel is a bad mix. For the use on stainless steel in bathrooms ok, but definatly not for the mild steel from your Volvo!
