Question 0w/30 castrol

hi guys,

i went to an indipendent and book the car for the pollen filter change( i cant be bothered to lose my sanity and meat from my hands to change it) and at the same time i asked him to change the oil and speciffically asked to put in the the 0w/30 and he was adamant that the 5w/30 it is better than the 0w/30 for the v50 2.0d.

i told him to use the 0w/30 he agreed at the end but he needed quite a lot of persuasion.

one question does any of you knows why?

manual states either for more adverse it is 0w/30, but the standard spec is 5w/30 used 5w/30 in mine. note that they should of only used 5.0 litres leaving it about 3/4's full and 1.8 litres on the stick rather than the earlier standard of 5.5 litres and 2.0 on the stick. All the stickers feature 5w/30 on the car.

more importantly is it meeting the ACEA rating of A5/B5.

Hello, 0w30 is the oil that is used for the D5 and newer engines known as Rtec. 5w30 is ACEA. A3B4 OR 3. The wss number listed in the book and the sticker is a Ford number.
either way it doesnt matter which two of those oils goes in!

All the manuals are still in ACEA (ACEA A5/B5) format even for the D2/D3/D4 etc. and it is castrol edge for 0w-30 if you want castrol or for the 5w-30 you can have magnatec or edge.

hi Ninja59 i understand completely, the 0w/30 meets the A5/B5 standard but not the ford standard.

The strange thing it is if we go with the manual and you have a look at oil with the standard WSS-M2C-913 B (the FORD standard) you find some oil even from very good company have a completely different viscosity not a small difference but i am talking about the double between each other.

lets pick up the castrol magnatec and quantum synta z (this oil is hom ologated for the ford standard ) the difference of viscosity at 40 degree is around 50 mm²/s higher than the castrol that means that this oil it is not as good when the engine is cold and it will make you use more diesel at the beginning and would take longer to get warm and be fully operational.

the only 2 that are very similar (actually virtually identical)are 5w/30 castrol magnatec and the 0w/30 edge a5/b5 other differnciate a bit.

please let me know if i am wrong.

Like i said Ninja D5 and newer engines, Well except the first gen D5. Have noticed though with the 2.0D PSA engine the stickers under the bonnet does list Castrol Edge A3B4 or Castrol Professional RTec. A5B5

Unless i am going utterly mental here Rtec no longer is sold? Or at least not in name!

either way we are not talking about a D3/D4 or D5 here so the standard is 5w/30 ACEA A5/B5 or 0W/30 ACEA A5/B5 (technically speaking by putting Edge 5w-30 it does not comply with the standards (laid down by Ford) so if you wanted edge then your forced down the 0w-30 route if you want castrol!)

Did think about millers to as well but i did not know tbh...

Edit: Just checked Castrol say Edge for D5 0w-30 A5/B5

Is the 2.0D engine a Ford engine then? I was under the impression it was a Peugot engine.

this engine was developed by Peugeot engineers in France on behalf of both PSA and Ford Motor Company.
