Bits wanted
Fred is doing well. Lots of posts about rust remedy (general topics) - Fred has car exczema on both rear wheel arches.
It seems Fred has been fitted with Monroe ride adjuster rear shocks. There is a wiggly stick mounted next to the hazzard light switch in the centre dash. I took the switch out as it didn't seem to be working, but it's just the switch that needs some glue. However, to remove the 'blanking plate' which the switch is mounted in, I had to break it as some thoughtful soul had glued the thing in place. I am now after a replacement blanking plate to re-mount the switch (once repaired) Also, Fred doesn't have a trip meter reset button. I guess this was removed by a previous owner as a momento of Fred? Not an essential piece of kit, but I like to reset the trip meter every time I fill up with petrol so I can keep an eye on the distance travelled after fill up in case the petrol gauge goes loopy (sounds nuts, but the information centre on my 850 T5 said 80 miles until empty, then spluttered on the M6. Lucky there was a petrol station 2 miles away, and it turned out there was less than 3 litres of petrol left in the tank!). I am looking through the owners manual, I can't see what the space under the analogue clock in the dash near the stereo is for. Any ideas? So to recap, I'm after a blanking plate for a switch, a trip meter reset button, and any (sensible or otherwise) suggestions for the space under the clock. I look forward to hearing your thoughts... RE: Bits wanted
Hi,
glad to hear your getting on well with fred, there will always be a home for him here when you go to oz,bare that in mind!! :-) The space under the clock is for an outside temperature gauge, i have one in my 242 but it aint for sale, these are very expensive,is your cover missing? I can supply you with the other bits,im scrapping a car at present and if i can find them ill send them on to you,you can have them free of charge provided i have them!!, if you want to send me your snailmail address my email is benjaminobrien2001@hotmail.com I presume by trip meter reset button you mean the little plastic button that sticks out under the speed that you push in to reset the trip meter...

RE: Bits wanted
Good luck with your new car! In addition to my highly beloved 1987 240 GL sedan, I just bought a 1988 GL wagon for my son who turned 18 this month. So my fingers are now covered with POR-15 rust killer...
The space under the clock is for any extra 52 mm gauge. Just lift the lid out and you'll see the round hole behind it. If you get one, make sure you get the three rubber "feet" to get a tight fit. There are plenty original Volvo gauges to choose from, as well as independent makes. Amp-meter, voltmeter, oil temp, oil pressure, outside temp gauge etc. Some even hook a turbo load gauge to their cooling system to get an early warning in case of pressure drop. I'd go for a voltmeter, if I didn't already have a digital timer for my engine block heater: http://home.no.net/ebrox/images/Dash1.jpg Regards, Erling. http://home.no.net/ebrox |

RE: Bits wanted
Also after a door knob - the bit you lift on the inside of the door to unlock it that is black and looks like a golf tee. (Owing to the fact that the drivers one had previously been broken and glued on by someone - I had to fully break it when removing all the door trims to get at the electric window motor....)
Thanks, anyone? Chris & Fred - 1988 240 GLT Estate 2.3ltr 165k Previously Henry - 1996 854 T5 S 134k Sylvester - 1995 440 SE 2.0ltr 35k Monty - 1995 440 Si 1.8ltr 70k Vincent - 1985 340 GL 1.4ltr 144k The Yellow Peril in Oz - 1982 244 GL 2.3ltr 250k |
