The torbo question gets asked alot and its a no sorry. You could do it theoretically but it would be lots and lots of time consuming and expensive work. As for the cat I know some guys who just drill out the contents of there cats to gain a little extra power and they still seem to be able to get them through mot's too.

Hi,
You are only required by law to have a Cat fitted after the 1st August 1992. If it was fitted prior to that date you can bin it. http://www.topgear.co.uk/faqs/Catalytic_faq.html The emissions test is not hard to pass if your car is well maintained and running well. I am a fan of these regulations, you certainly see alot less stinky cars on the road than you used to or are people not buying so many fords :-s The turbo route is not worth the hassle on the 400's in my view. Even the 1.7 turbo produces a humble 120bhp which is very low. I bought my 1.8 for cheap but safe(ish) motoring. If you are looking to turbo about try the 850, there is little to beat it and they are about a grand. As for parts I go between German Swedish French and Europart. I would never go near OEM parts provider for a car of my age. Hope that helps, David |
