2005 V70 2.4 N/a 146k miles, Auto, petrol info needed
Hey everyone,
Wanting to tap into the hive mind as it were. As the title is above, my V70 is now at 146k miles. I've recently decided that I don't ever plan on selling it, so I want to keep it going as long as I can, and do the best I can for it. So my question is, What would people advise to keep this car as healthy and happy as possible for as long as possible? I would base it that apart from basic services that i've done myself (oil, filters, sparks) for probably the last 50k, what do you think I should have on my to-do list? I've just replaced a lower ball joint and new caliper for the MOT. And I plan on doing a coolant flush at some point soon (Live in Scotland, so weather has been unpredictable recently). I look forward to hearing what you think would be good! Thanks everyone in advance. Last edited by carlsant1; Mar 16th, 2023 at 12:05. Reason: more info |

if it's an auto a few gearbox fluid drain and fills probably wouldn't hurt
power steering fluid flush as well (check correct type, probably green? but find out for sure) keep an eye on the battery condition as well, if that's aged and you start getting low voltages it can cause random gremlins. and personally having been north of the wall a few times I know there's plenty of places out in the wild I wouldn't want to find myself with a flat battery Last edited by stuart bowes; Mar 16th, 2023 at 11:56. |

Hadn't thought about the power steering though. Will mark that down. Battery I keep an eye on, it's had a new one not too long ago, and I have a battery charger that I plug in whenever im doing any work on the car, so it gets 'conditioned' pretty frequently. Definitely worth finding some way of keeping an eye on it though, maybe set up an alert in Torque for voltage, shall have a play. Thanks for your input. |

I'm guessing you're already clued up on cam belt and auxiliary belt health and replacement? Plenty of info here on the forum. My indie mentioned the aux belt health is every bit as important as the cambelt as if the aux belt fails it's possible for debris to be thrown into the path of the cam belt, causing that to fail too. Seen the same warning on here.

I am in much the same position with my 2006 V70 2.4 petrol , but I have the manual box and 139,000 miles
I make sure it has at least full oil and filter change every year, and I try to buy either OEM or at least high spec alternative parts when needed, in order to avoid the "buy cheap , buy twice" scenario. Belt changes at 10 years are essential , brake fluid every 2 years, power steering as needed , and coolant every 8 (?) . Spark plugs every 5 years. Other than that just keep the car reasonably clean to avoid rust and a hose down the underneath every spring, (although these cars are pretty good at resisting corrosion)
