how many miles?
Hi,
I have a '99' V70 10v 2.5ltr, running on a LPG conversation. I was wondering how miles I should be getting, is it the same as petrol? or does it change when running on LPG? My car has a 58ltr tank, and I put in about £20p/w at 54.9p per LTR and get about 250 miles on speeds of about an average of 60 mph. I know this may be a silly question, but I just would like to know. Many thanks. |

You will get slightly less MPG compared to petrol when you run on LPG as it has a lower calorific value than petrol (i.e. you have to burn more of it to get the equivalent energy)
How big the difference is depends on the car and the LPG system in use. Cheers, John |

Lpg mpg
Quote:
That sounds rather good to me. £20 at 54.9p/litre is 8 gallons in old money. 250 miles on 8 gallons is 31.25 mpg. The steady 60mph is the key. You'll find that driving at 65/70 and above will really hike up the consumption. In mixed driving (my daily 56 mile round trip to work - mixture of M-way and country lanes) my V70 2.5 10v auto conversion returns around 25mpg, the best I ever got on a long run was 28.8 mpg. Our 2.5 10v S70 auto runs on petrol and does a bit better at around 30 to 32 mpg, although covers fewer motorway miles. The other thing that clobbers the mpg is the aircon. If you use it you will use up to 10% more fuel! Cheers Jack Last edited by capt jack; Dec 10th, 2008 at 12:43. Reason: typos |

BUT........ I would strongly advise you to seek out your local Gas supplier (the guys that supply LPG to the homes with central heating) they HAVE TO by law provide LPG from their tanks to "members of the public" don't be fooled into going to the local petrol station & buying it there. Locally to me ( Blackpool) LPG is 54.9p at the garage but if I go into the Gas supplier (In my case CAM GAS) ..it's only 43.8p a litre... the pumps are a bit antiquated but hey, yer saving a shed load of money on the Gas ..so who cares!! No problems on older models. LPG burns cleaner and there is very little oil contamination. My 240 has a 100% LPG conversion (thats right, no petrol) and runs great. There is one ex member of this forum that has exceeded 250,000 in a number of LPG fueled Volves no problem. |

my v70 is averaging around 23 mpg on gas but only had it just over a week so to early to get total figures my only problem is because mine is a factory built bi fuel it only has a 50ltr tank or 40ltr useable which means i'm filling up every few days where on my petrol mercedes i was filling up once a week

Just wondering, when I have been flling up on LPG during the colder weather when the temp was below 0 does it effect the gauge?? It is just that I have oticed when it is slightly warmer the gauge shows really quickly but when it is below 0 it takes longer.

Ambient temperature absolutely does affect LPG.
You'll get more gas in your tank if you fill up on a cold day! This must be because it's more dense at lower temperatures, and so slows down any movement of whatever wobbly bit is the level sensor I guess! Cheers Jack |
