Timing Belt V70
Hi
Can anyone please tell me when the timing belt/chain needs changing on my 2003 V70 Estate with the 5 cylander Deisal engine. Also can this be done by garage that is not a Volvo garage - I live in France and dont have a dealer close by. Also please how much would this cost in a garage in the UK Thanks for your help Paul |

Paul , garage in Glasgow Volvomax charge £120 inc VAT for supply and fitting cambelt only on a D5 engine but realising thats a bit far to travel . I was planning to do it myself next time round but just looking at reply from Clan about the 300Nm crank pulley nut I realise that my torque wrench only goes up to 150Nm so need yet another special tool that will be used just once.

Thats obviously non genuine parts as the volvo parts :
cambelt , tensioner , nut , 4 bolts and auxilary belt are just the other side of £100 alone ... bearing in mind the official labour time for a technician experienced in this work is 0.9 hours thats a bit too cheap ..

I didnt ask them at the time if they were using original Volvo parts , I had this done at around 115k and even though nearly 20k over the limit the original belt appeared still perfect with no perishing or cracks but I know what the consequences are for a broken cam belt so told them to go ahead and replace it . In view of it possibly being a non genuine belt I will replace it at 170k , if I get that far ! When the same garage replaced the front wishbones they didnt get the driver side drive shaft back in properly and damaged it and they replaced that with a genuine Volvo unit at a cost to them of £350 which I wasnt insisting on , they just did it so there is a possibility they used an orginal Volvo belt but maybe did not renew anything but the belt . They gave me the option of Volvo or QH for the wishbones and being a tight wad I went for the QH which so far have been ok .
