Hello

I would also endorse Chips Away. Someone ran a Flymo over some gravel, and machinegunned the side of SWMBO's car. Four or five stone chips, an a few scratches were evidence of their kindness.

Local Chips Away franchise man came, and his care and attention to detail was impressive.

He even had s little heat gun - I think he said it was to cure the paint.

Now, you simply cannot see where the chips and scratches were.

Alcohol would be best to get it clean, cheap enough at Boots.

I have the touch up sticks bobby2000 suggests. I find getting getting a good finish difficult, but in an unnoticeable place maybe better to get them as the clear lacquer comes with it and you've got the paint if you need it.

Thanks for all of the suggestions concerning this..

In the end I bought some 99.9% isopropyl alcohol and wiped the chips / scratches (thought I might as well do some small ones on the bonnet while I was at it) with a j-cloth dampened with the alcohol. Then waited for it to dry (about 30 seconds) and carefully applied clear lacquer (my girlfriend informed me it that it seems to be exactly the same as nail varnish) over the scratches.

I've let it dry and it seems to be protecting them so job done I guess.

Thanks!

I bought a Chipex kit a while ago for a car I don't own anymore but I still use it with genuine paint for any chips I have; it's awesome stuff from the brushes to the blending fluid. The paint is brill too and if you were to buy the whole kit you would have them mix it up for you ofc but on the XC is used a Volvo touch up stick to paint as it was cheaper and bought locally

That said, if you want a Chipex kit get a small one, you don't need one any bigger than the smallest one, I bought a 20 chip size box and I've painted over 60 chips easily with it, I counted 35 on the XC alone!! 156,000 miles takes its toll haha
