Exclamation ‘04 XC90 engine light on

In the October of last year, my XC90 stopped working. Didn’t have time to deal with it then so I just left it there and bought myself a replacement car. Today, I changed the starter and the car finally turned on. The engine light is on though. Any idea why? Should I work on it myself or is it better to take it to the mechanic? Thanks!

work on it yourself allow the engine to com up to temp and have a short run then scan with a diagnostic tool vida is best but some others will work then proceed with what is found by diagnostics.

Get Vida or find a diagnostics garage. We have a specialist guy all the garages use here for difficult diagnostics or private diagnostics. Find someone similar or get vida.

Hi

I agree with simmy. Just take the car for a few runs and see if this corrects the problem.

I see you have two local volvo dealers and garages that handle volvo in Estonia and local to you.

If the problem continues, you must get the codes read. The garage could do this for you but then you need to interpret the findings. If you publish your codes on this forum, there are many that will advise on resolution.

Depending if you plan to keep the car, I would consider purchasing a simple code reader. A garage will probably charge you the cost of a cheaper code reader for just reading the codes for you so could be a good investment.

Although I do have vida, I use a simple autel code reader but I suggest one that can read and erase codes in most modules.

You can also get readers that interface with you mobile.

In my opinion and especially if you intend to keep the car, this would be my approach.

Hope this helps

Update – the engine light disappeared after driving for a little today. Should I still run diagnostics? Also I noticed that the steering wheel and the car overall shakes or shivers more than few months ago. Thanks!

The code will be stored but I would forget about that short term.

I suspect that you need to check tyres after being stood for a while.

Try swapping the front for the rear and see if it makes a difference.

But good news re engine light.
